What is Otley 800?
Otley 800 is a year-long series of events celebrating the 800th anniversary of Otley gaining its town charter and building the bridge. It’s a chance to celebrate Otley’s rich history, resilience, and evolution over the centuries.
What kind of events will there be?
We are currently finalising events but suggestions so far include
- A year-long tapestry depicting Otley’s history.
- An immersive pageant-style main event
- Re-enactments and processions
- Music and poetry performances
- Opportunities to increase business and tourism.
When and where will Otley 800 take place?
Otley 800 events will take place throughout the borough of Otley, with the main event happening in Wharfemeadows Park. The festivities will be spread out over four years, with:
- 2024: Planning, research, and recruitment of key partners
- 2025: Fundraising planning and initial test events
- 2026: Test events, ranging from small to large scale
- 2027: First large-scale celebratory events, including the 800th anniversary of the charter
- 2028: Big event year, focusing on the 800th anniversary of the bridge
Who can be involved?
Otley 800 is a community-focused celebration, and everyone is encouraged to participate! We welcome involvement from:
- The people of Otley
- Businesses and market traders

- Schools and youth groups

Otley 800 will be funded through a variety of sources, including:
- Legacy money from Leeds 2023
