Celebrate the beginning of Otley 800

Join us for one special weekend, as Otley comes together to mark the beginning of a once-in-a-generation celebration. Charter Weekend launches Otley 800 with four days of events, activities and experiences in and around Market Place, all that celebrate the town’s remarkable past while looking ahead to its future.

From the bustle of the historic Market Place to musical performances, family activities and community events taking place across the town, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’ve lived in Otley all your life or are discovering it for the first time, Charter Weekend is an invitation to be part of a milestone that most communities only celebrate once.

Many of the activities will be free to attend, thanks to the incredible efforts of local organisations, volunteers and community groups. So come along, explore, meet old friends, make new memories and help us launch what promises to be an unforgettable year of celebration.

What’s happening

From the ringing of the bells at Otley Parish Church, through a proclamation by the Otley Bellman to market stalls galore, and live entertainment, Charter Weekend will be packed with things to see and do. Here’s a flavour of what’s planned.

Opening Ceremony

With a proclamation by the Otley Bellman, welcomes from local dignitaries and a few surprises too, the official Otley 800 opening ceremony promises to be a fitting start to this incredible celebration.

Local Live Legends

Throughout the four-day celebration, local musicians and ensembles will bring the town to life with performances inspired by sounds, songs and stories from across the centuries.

Market stalls

With Leeds City Markets hosting the first two days and Otley Farmers’ Market taking over for the second two, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to browse, shop, eat and soak up the atmosphere.
